If i were to design a workplace, I will design a studio for designers. As a designer, it is important to have a studio which employees can engage with and feel comfortable in. A poor designed workplace inhibits creativity, performance, engagement and innovation. Thus, a few things I would have to consider before starting to collect data:
- What data can I collect to support my research goals?
- Spatial layout of the workplace in terms of the ergonomics in the workplace, privacy and density in the workplace.
- Environmental conditions of the workplace, including air temperature, air movement, relative humidity, illuminance and noise. It is important to note that design guidance contains recommendations for workplace environments based upon creating a comfortable environment.
- Design of the workplace such as color scheme
- How do I collect and capture the information I need?
- Case / precedent studies of the workplace which we need to study different kind of workplaces and analyse an existing design in order to get inspirations and have a better understanding on how an office usually function, their style and language.
- Questionaires & Interview the users about the overall satisfaction with the workplace, the amount of stimulation provided by the workplace environment and perceived productivity.
- Site Visit to experience the real place in terms of the structure, spatial layout, materials used and environmental conditions of a workplaces.
- Observing users in their working life for example, how they react in the office? energetic or in low spirits and etc..
- Secondary Sources such as visits furniture and material shops in order to find out a suitable furniture and materials for an office design.
